Today we had a lecture from invited guest who is Ms. Lilamani Amerasekera, the librarian of the APIIT Sri Lanka. She conducted a lecture, all about the APIIT library. Following are the main topics which we discussed today.

Accessing Online Resources.

These were the steps that APIIT student can activates their Windows live email account.

• Payments of Staffordshire University registration fee.
• Activate APIIT email account in Windows live.

• Athens password will be sent by staffordshire university to your APIIT email account direct.

Activate APIIT email Account.

• Visit to the http://login.live.com url.
• You may enter the respective user id and the password given below and you are free to change the password at the first login.

• Once the account is activated please inform the library. (wathsala@apiit.lk).

Library Services.

• High demand books.

• Scan on demand service.

                 - On lecturers’ request scanning the relevant chapters only.

                 - Those copies are  available in the fileserver taking into consideration the copyright law as well.

• Growing e book collection on recommended and addl. Reading uploaded to the fileserver.

• Around 3,000 research articles linked to the online catalogue.

• Introduction of a general collection of self-help books in both city campus and law libraries.

• Literature searches are carried out by the library staff  for students.

• Selective dissemination of information service is provided.

                 - This is to regularly alert users to new information on their chosen topics.

• Group/individual sessions are conducted to educate students using online resources.

• Articles relating to “Building Your Personality” could be found in webspace.

• Electronic publication relating to Sri Lanka legislative enactments and law reports (the advanced and updated version of the e-law software package) could be found at at library.

• Network with other local libraries viz. Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Bank of Ceylon, Institute of Policy Studies, University Libraries - Peradeniya, Sri Jayawardenapura, Moratuwa, Open, District Court Library, Law College Library, Judge’s Library, Social Scientist Association, SLFI Library etc.

• Colombo University Electronic Resource Repository and other useful web portals viz. Govt. Depts., Banks, Trade Organisations and Chambers of Commerce. BOI and Institute of Policy Studies have been linked to webspace.

• Established links with a few bookshops and have obtained exclusive discounted rates for APIIT students.

                 - Sarasavi Book Shop.

• Assistance is provided to purchase personal copies of recommended texts that are not available locally.

                 - Provided students make the full payment in advance.

• Students and staff directed to sources of information and also to other libraries for their research work with an introductory letter.

Termination of Library Membership.

• You can request for termination.

                 - This can be after completion of level 3 or

                 - If you are dropping out of the course.

• If you want to terminate your account, make sure that you

                 - Get the library membership termination from the library.

                 - You must settle all your dues before handing over the completed termination form to the library.

• Deposite will be refunded when final results are released.

• No termination process is allowed to be done on behalf of a friend unless there is a letter of authorization.
